The Trip: Mongolia, July 8 - 17, 2008

Wild horses galloping across the steppes, Genghis Khan and caravans of camels trekking the Gobi Desert—the name "Mongolia" has always stirred visions of the untamed. Even today, outside of Ulaan Baatar, you sense that you've stepped into another century rather than another country.

Whether it be attending local festivals, or playing paleontologist for a day among the region’s many fascinating locales, you’ll find Mongolia, the “Land of Blue Sky,” a remarkable country of spectacular light and traditional culture. It is an invigorating and exhilarating place to visit, and remains one of the last unspoiled travel destinations in Asia.

The winning travel writer will see Mongolia's century old Naadam Festival, the biggest festival of the year for Mongolians, camp in traditional felt gers at Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and the Gobi Desert, learn about the Nomadic lifestyle, discover the traditional ways of Mongolian horse breeding, learn the art of building a Mongolia ger, visit with Nomadic Mongolian families, hunt for actual dinosaur fossils at the Flaming Cliff, ride a camel and learn camel-breeding etiquette in the Gobi Desert.

Travcoa will provide the round-trip coach airfare from the United States to Beijing, China. Once there, the successful writer and Keith Bellows will join the Travcoa group of 15 other fellow travelers for the Mongolian adventure.

Travcoa’s Escorted Journey includes deluxe accommodations, all meals, the personal services of a Travel Director throughout the journey, airport transportation, luggage handling, gratuities and $50,000 medical evacuation insurance.
